Natural spa and resort Mataruška Banja
In this project, I reimagine the nostalgic allure of vintage postcards through a contemporary lens,
focusing on a once- popular spa and resort now shrouded in chaos and neglect. My photographs serve
as
a
juxtaposition to the idyllic
scenes captured in the original postcards, transforming their serene beauty into a haunting
portrayal of
decay.
Each new postcard reflects the haunting remnants of a vibrant past, a once, bustling sanctuary for
relaxation and escape.
Where there were smiling faces and serene landscapes, now lies an unsettling stillness: crumbling
walls,
overgrown
gardens, and empty fountain. This stark contrast invites viewers to confront the passage of time and
the
inevitable
decline of even the most cherished spaces.
Through this exploration, I seek to evoke a sense of nostalgia for what once was while highlighting
the
beauty found in ruin. By presenting these chaotic scenes in a format reminiscent of traditional
postcards, I encourage
viewers to reflect on memory, loss, and the layers of history embedded in these abandoned places.
Ultimately, my work challenges the viewer to consider how we document and remember spaces that have
lost
their
former
glory, prompting a dialogue about the delicate balance between beauty and decay.
